Community Information

Georgina Public Libraries are at the heart of your community, providing access to informational brochures and posters from a wide variety of not-for-profit agencies and organizations. In addition, the Library is a partner agency in the York North Community Information and Volunteer Database, which unites the Northern Municipalities of York Region in the sharing and maintenance of a centralized on-line database providing information on not-for-profit community services, social services, local volunteer opportunities, and government services within York Region.

211Ontario.ca is a simple, straightforward directory that can be searched by keyword, category and region. It lets people living anywhere in Ontario find out about social services in other communities. An individual living in
Thunder Bay, for example, will be able to search the directory to find a Meals on Wheels program for a parent living in Georgina. .

Town of Georgina Pioneer Village & Archives

Georgina Pioneer VillageThe mission of the Town of Georgina Archives is to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit documents and photographs relevant to the history of our town, and to make these available to researchers. The Town of Georgina Archives always welcomes information and donations that relate to Georgina’s history. Our collection includes historical information on Georgina, North Gwillimbury and Village of Sutton, its families, businesses, social organizations and many other areas of interest. Included in the collection are photographs, newspapers, maps, scrapbooks, and other Georgina related memorabilia. Materials do not circulate. Researchers are welcome (by appointment Monday - Friday). Explain what you are looking for, and our staff will make the documents you require available to you. Difficult requests will be charged $10/hour (estimated in advance) plus printing costs.

The Pioneer Village is open from late May to Labour Day weekend. You can visit the Village from Thursday-Sunday from 10-5. Pre-booked tours, workshops, and community school group bookings are available all year-round Special events are subject to special admission rates.The Archives are open year-round by appointment.

The Learning Centre for Georgina

The Learning Centre for Georgina (LCG), a non-profit agency, promotes life long learning, and helps people improve their basic reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. Our programs assist students to achieve personal and job related goals, develop skills for independence, and feel good about their accomplishments.

Understanding the Early Years (UEY) is a national research initiative enabling communities to better understand the needs of their young children and families. The UEY Initiative will provide quality information about the school readiness of kindergarten children; family and community factors that influence children’s development; and the availability of local resources to support young children and their families in Georgina.

The Stephen Leacock Theatre of Performing Arts is located in Keswick at 130 Gwendolyn Drive. The theatre is home to the Queensville Players, South Shore Little Theatre and the Town of Georgina Leisure Services Department also produces shows and events. The goal of the project is to give people comprehensive information about the character of Georgina. The information compiled by residents shows Georgina as a livable and environmentally-friendly place. It also shows the way natural heritage combines with social heritage, The maps capture a level of detail about these intertwined elements that only can come from people who live in an area.

The York Regional Archives holds government related documents for York Region.  The collection also includes an assortment of photographs and artifacts, and a reference library on York Region history.

mpac AboutMyProperty

The Municipal Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is collaborating with the Town of Georgina to offer access to AboutMyProperty™ at the public library. AboutMyProperty™ is a secure, online service available on MPAC’s website at www.mpac.ca

Through AboutMyProperty™, residential property owners can access: detailed information about their own property and information on up to 24 additional residential properties of their choice. This information can be used to compare an assessment to similar properties in the area and help determine if the assessment is accurate. Property owners may also choose to file a Request for Reconsideration through AboutMyProperty™ (Deadline March 31st) Property owners will need their AboutMyProperty™ User ID and Password to login. This information can be found on the bottom right hand corner of the 2008 Property Assessment Notice. Contact MPAC at 1 866 296-MPAC (6722) for more information.
